WEST COAST JEWELRY SHOW ADDS CENTURION LOS ANGELES;
RETURNS TO HYATT REGENCY CENTURY PLAZA FOR YEAR FOUR
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- Going into its fourth year, the West Coast Jewelry Show (WCJS) will move back to the Los Angeles/Beverly Hills area for the 2008 Edition, set for Saturday, August 16 through Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City.
Adding to the show's panache, the popular Centurion Show will present a fully contained Centurion Los Angeles Pavilion of some 70 salons of higher-end manufacturer and designer exclusive collections geared to the prestige level of the fine jewelry trade. Centurion Los Angeles Pavilion Exhibitors will present their collections in the hotel's Los Angeles Ballroom in themed hardwall salons with headers and overhead lighting.
The California Showroom, the Century Plaza's largest meeting and convention space just across from the Los Angeles Ballroom on the same level, will play host to a pipe-and-drape environment of some 130 booths of important vendors of gold, diamonds, sterling silver, gemstones and much more at all price levels.
"We believe the combination of the higher-end Centurion Los Angeles Pavilion and the California Showroom exhibits will make for a rewarding and well-rounded shopping experience for all attending retailers," said Howard Hauben, president of WCJS show owner and producer H2 Events.
RETAILERS, EXHIBITORS ALIKE APPLAUD MOVE TO THE HYATT REGENCY CENTURY PLAZA PLUS ADDITION OF CENTURION LOS ANGELES PAVILION
RETAILERS:
"We, the Board of Directors of the California Jewelers Association, are excited to see the West Coast Jewelry Show return to the Century Plaza. This venue has been the site of many a memorable and successful Pacific Jewelry Show, the predecessor to the West Coast Jewelry Show. This move, combined with the new format, provides an exclamation point to the most important benefit to the members of the CJA and all jewelers on the west coast. This event, which takes place at the perfect time and perfect place to stock up for the holidays, expects to be fabulous under the direction of H2 Events. Howard Hauben's track record in running successful shows speaks for itself. We look forward to coming home." Rick Velayo, Gleim, Inc., Palo Alto, CA and president, California Jewelers Association.
“We are thrilled that the West Coast Jewelry Show is moving back to the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel! It will be just like the ‘old days’ when this was THE premiere show in the country. Not only is it a much better time of year for retailers to plan their holiday inventories, it is also a much more ‘retail friendly’ show, more manageable as far as size goes—you can do the entire show in 2 days without being overwhelmed or frustrated. In addition, there is a fabulous representation of all of the best designers. We can’t wait!”
Gail and David Friedman, Owners, Sarah Leonard Fine Jewelers, Inc., Los Angeles, CA.
“Buyers and exhibitors alike will applaud the return of the West Coast Jewelry Show to the Century Plaza Hotel. Not only does it hold many memories for us all, but it also was the site of one of the most successful jewelry shows in the country. The West Coast Jewelry Show will revive those memories.” Gary Long, Gary Long's Jewelers, Stockton, CA.
“I like the West Coast Jewelry Show very much, because you can get to spend more time with vendors. Last show I found two new vendors for color diamond jewelry. Sometimes in Las Vegas, the show is so big that it is very tiring.” Victoria Casillas, Michael's Jewelers, Santee, CA.
“Shopping at the Centurion-West Coast show is now a must. The new show dates are perfect for us. The location is practical and convenient. We had the opportunity to meet new vendors and finish our Holiday orders. Centurion/West Coast is the perfect addition to our trade show calendar. Congratulations to Howard and his fabulous team!” Soraya Cayen, Cayen Collection, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA.
EXHIBITORS:
“Our customers realize that if they want to see a company’s new product, as well as the full line, they need to make their purchases at a show. The enticement of Los Angeles/Beverly Hills, and the elegance of the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel will again draw from across the country. The addition of the Centurion Pavilion will no doubt entice a myriad of buyers. This show is an excellent opportunity to accomplish fall purchases with ample time for delivery.” Jim Esser, Royal Pearl.
“Great move for the business we are looking for at Lady Heart. There is an unbelievable amount of new opportunity that comes with the Centurion Pavilion to generate more traffic in an elegant and laid back setting. With the move back to Century City the needs of our company will be better suited. This will enable more traffic not only in quantity but more importantly quality.” Gill Goshen, Lady Heart and Flame Collection.
“The concept of having a Centurion Pavilion is wonderful. Traffic generated from this pavilion will benefit all exhibitors in the show. All jewelers from California and the West Coast should support this show, and we believe many high-end jewelers from across the country will be delighted to attend.” David Spivak, Exhibitor, Charles Wolf Couture.
“Moving to the Century Plaza puts the WCJS in the most positive possible location. Presenting it in a luxurious format that will attract the right buyers creates a win-win situation. Dangler Studios looks forward to the WCJS planting its roots here and becoming one of the key events each year.” Paul & Mary Lou Dangler, Dangler Studios.
RETAILER INCENTIVES WILL GROW IN 2008
As was the case at the 2007 show in Anaheim, retail jewelers coming to WCJS from 50 miles or more will qualify for one complimentary night in the Century Plaza. For 2008 the complimentary (room and tax) will be based on availability and completion of at least 6 confirmed meetings with exhibitors at the show.
WCJS will again offer a $30 Gasoline reimbursement program, based on at least 3 completed meetings with exhibitors at the show. Gasoline reimbursement will be for stores coming to WCJS from 25-49 miles from the Century Plaza. There will be up to one reimbursement per store per show day and the gasoline incentive cannot be combined with a complimentary room. In addition to rooms and gas, WCJS will also offer a Self-Parking Reimbursement for those stores coming to the show from under 25 miles away, with rules to be announced.
Exhibitors and attendees will also receive $20 Lunch Vouchers for meals at the Concessions in the California Showroom on Sunday and Monday of the show.
Adding to the excitement of the repeating 2007 incentives will be offerings for retailers invited for Special Attendance Packages courtesy of the Centurion Los Angeles Pavilion. These will include two nights (room and tax) in the Century Plaza, a special dinner with entertainment, special buffet in the Pavilion on two of the three show days, and airfare reimbursements. These incentives will be based on an invited jewelry store commiting to and completing a set number of meetings with Centurion Los Angeles Pavilion and California Showroom exhibitors.
HOLIDAY BOOT CAMP SEMINARS OFFERED
WCJS will employ the ideal meeting room space on the same level as the exhibits to offer excellent retailer education under the Holiday Boot Camp banner. The schedule for these sessions will be developed in cooperation with official show sponsor The California Jewelers Association (CJA)
CJA will also present its Robert B. Westover Distinguished Service Award to its 2008 recipient at a special event at the Century Plaza during the show weekend, with full details to be announced. Past winners include Dick Kern, Churchill's Jewelers, Santa Barbara, CA; Jim Hartstein, Jewels By Joseph, Newport Beach, CA; Gary Long , Gary Long's Jewelers, Stockton, CA; and Arthur Gleim, Gleim, Inc., Palo Alto, CA.
"The Century Plaza, where the show succeeded for many years, was a long-time favorite for exhibitors and attendees," said Hauben. WCJS moved to the Anaheim Convention Center for 2006 and 2007, while the Century Plaza underwent a renovation and changed hands from Westin to Hyatt. "We feel the service levels at Century Plaza are now at an all-time high and the hotel has been very motivated to recapture our business," he added. "This bodes well for the experience all attendees and exhibitors can expect when return to the Century Plaza in 2008."

POWERFUL RETAILER INCENTIVES AND WJA, B.I.G.,
BOOT CAMP EDUCATION HIGHLIGHT 2007 WCJS SHOW
ANAHEIM, CA—Perfect timing, some 300 booths of great exhibitors and a comfortable venue in which to shop are key to the 2007 West Coast Jewelry Show (WCJS). But that’s only the beginning for attending retail jewelers. Qualified retail jewelry stores visiting WCJS September 9-10, 2007 at the Anaheim Convention Center, Hall E, Anaheim, CA, can earn powerful incentives including a free room night at the adjacent Anaheim Marriott to make their trip to the show more comfortable.
If a store comes to the show from 50 or more miles from Anaheim and works eight hours or more on the show floor on both days, room and tax for the night of Sunday, September 9 will be covered by WCJS at the Anaheim Marriott, according to show management. Additional incentives include a $30 Gasoline Voucher for stores coming to the show from 25-49 miles away who work on the show floor for a combined 5 hours or more. And self-parking will be complimentary for stores attending from 1-24 miles away. Hotel, gasoline and parking incentives cannot be combined.
WCJS also offers a $20 lunch voucher for the concession on the show floor for all attendees each show day. “Last year this was a big hit,” said associate show manager Denise Mignone. “The food was good as well as plentiful.”
“We also offer a Raffle Program on Monday afternoon at 3 PM that will feature prizes including a Vacation Get Away, a flat screen TV, a Louis Vuitton Handbag, Spa packages, various gift cards, and much more to be won by attendees,” Mignone added.
Buyers who pre-register to attend WCJS on-line or via a WCJS mailer will earn up to 50 additional raffle tickets to add to their chances to win. Visit www.westcoastjewelryshow.com and click Retailer Registration to take advantage of this offer.
SATURDAY EDUCATION A MAJOR HIGHLIGHT
WCJS also offers attending buyers outstanding educational opportunities. It all begins on Saturday afternoon, September 8, at the Anaheim Marriott with two special educational events at moderate extra cost for retailer attendees:
The Women’s Jewelry Association will present its Inaugural West Coast “Women In The Know” Conference on Saturday, featuring top speakers and a mission to help women achieve all of the goals they have set for themselves within the jewelry industry. Conference highlights include Keynote address from Dr. Margeaux R. Cvar, CEO of the Cvar Von Habsburg Group LLC; educational sessions and panel discussions on practical business advice and successful strategies; interactive roundtable discussions on hot topics; and peer-to-peer networking sessions, where attendees will learn from one another about successful practices for overcoming business challenges. Tickets for the conference are $150 for WJA members, $75 for students and $175 for non-members. Prices include full registration, lunch and an evening cocktail reception. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to ensure admission. To register, visit www.womensjewelry.org or call national headquarters at 856-423-3156 or contact Judy Shechter-Lankford at jshechte@gia.edu or 310-317-9165.
Also at the Anaheim Marriott on Saturday, September 8, Buyers International Group (B.I.G.) presents a seminar led by its chief executive officer Abe Sherman. According to B.I.G., this session will show retail jewelers “how to analyze and manage your inventory to align with your customer's needs and your profitability goals. Learn new and innovative solutions that result in reducing aged inventory and increasing sales, gross margin and cash flow.” Register by visiting www.BIGjewelers.com or call 866-359-4244 for more information.
Both the WJA and B.I.G. sessions qualify for a special room night offer from WCJS. On a first-come, first-served basis, if a qualified retail jeweler registers and attends either session from 50 or more miles away on Saturday and also works at the WCJS Show for the full day on Sunday, September 9, WCJS will pick up room and tax for a free night’s stay on Saturday night at the adjacent Anaheim Marriott. If you qualify, contact WCJS at 1-888-427-4697, --516-377-5909 or email info@westcoastjewelryshow.com to arrange your free room night.

FREE RETAILER HOTEL ROOMS, LATER DATES
STRENGTHEN WEST COAST JEWELRY SHOW
ANAHEIM, CA—Going into its third year, the West Coast Jewelry Show (WCJS) has added a complimentary hotel room program for retailers attending the show from 50 or more miles away. In addition, the show has shifted to later dates, September 9-10, 2007. The location will again be the Anaheim Convention Center, Hall E, Anaheim, CA.
“Last year, we added a Lunch Voucher Program for retailers and exhibitors and people loved the quantity, quality and accessibility of the food,” said Howard Hauben, president of the West Coast Jewelry Show. “For 2007, we will continue to make the show more user friendly by adding a major new program—free rooms for retail jewelers attending WCJS from 50 or more miles away,” he added. “Many jewelers in the Western United States who would like to attend the show will find this offering to be a key opportunity.”
The dates will also shift from late August to the weekend following Labor Day—September 9-10—to enable independent jewelers from the Western United States to better sense their markets for the holiday season prior to finishing their buying. “It’s becoming increasingly difficult for retail jewelers to accurately plan their Holiday inventory and the season is seemingly getting later and later,” said Robert Marks, president of the California Jewelers Association (CJA) and Rogers Jewelry Co., Modesto, CA. “These new post-Labor Day dates give retail jewelers, especially independent stores, the ability to better see their target before finalizing purchasing,” added Marks. CJA is the official sponsor of WCJS.
Another WCJS improvement will be the the move of the popular “Holiday Boot Camp” Educational Seminar Program to take place on the show floor, with extra sessions to be added for greater retailer convenience.
“We will also dramatically increase the number of raffle prizes offered to attending retailers, all of which will have a guaranteed winner,” said Hauben.
The show will offer some close to 300 exhibitors at all price points covering supplies and services, colored gemstones, sterling silver, designer and high-end jewelry, timepieces and more.
